Emerald Homes vs Mother’s Earth Laundry Sheets

The short answer: if you’re in Ireland and want a non-bio laundry sheet that is gentle enough for wool and delicates, arrives tomorrow, or can be picked up in select SuperValu, Lotts & Co. or Quay Co-Op stores, Emerald Homes is the simpler choice. Mother’s Earth is a bio sheet shipped from the Netherlands, and it is not suitable for wool or silk. It suits you better only if you need a completely fragrance-free sheet today, or you specifically want enzymes in your wash.

Why Irish households choose Emerald Homes

  • Non-bio, with no enzymes. Mother’s Earth sheets contain protease, an enzyme, which makes them bio. Many people washing for sensitive skin or babies look for non-bio. What non-bio means.
  • Gentle enough for wool, silk and delicates. Protease enzymes break down protein, and wool and silk are protein fibres. That is why Mother’s Earth says its sheets are not for wool or silk. Ours contain no enzymes, so one sheet covers every fabric and colour in your wash. Always follow the care label.
  • Next-day delivery in Ireland. Order before 1pm and it arrives tomorrow. Mother’s Earth ships from the Netherlands and quotes an average of 3–9 working days.
  • In select Irish shops. Select SuperValu (Mount Merrion, Terenure), Lotts & Co. (Clontarf, Terenure, Ballsbridge) and Quay Co-Op Wholefood & Organic Shops (Cork).
  • Every ingredient, with its percentage. Sodium dodecyl sulfate 58%, fatty alcohol polyglycol ether 17%, polyvinyl alcohol 15%, water 9%, parfum 1%. Nothing hidden behind “plant-based”.
  • Independently tested. Our surfactants reached 99.8% biodegradation in 7 days, tested by the Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology, an internationally accredited lab (ILAC-MRA, report 2021SP11398R01D, December 2021). Our main cleaning ingredient, sodium dodecyl sulfate, is also readily biodegradable under OECD 301B, the standard Mother’s Earth cites. Neither test covered the PVA that binds the sheet, so we make no claim about the whole sheet.
  • Not classified as hazardous. Under EU CLP rules our sheets need no hazard warning labels (safety data sheet, April 2023).
  • Higher rated. 4.77 out of 5 from 195 reviews, against 4.70 for Mother’s Earth.

Questions people ask

Are Mother's Earth laundry sheets bio or non-bio?

Bio. Their product page says the sheets contain protease, an enzyme. Emerald Homes sheets are non-bio, with no enzymes.

Can I use laundry sheets on wool and silk?

Emerald Homes sheets, yes. They contain no enzymes, so they are suitable for wool, silk and delicates as well as everyday clothes. Mother's Earth says its sheets are not suitable for wool or silk, because their protease enzyme breaks down protein fibres. Always follow the care label.

Which delivers faster to Ireland?

Emerald Homes. We ship from Northern Ireland with next-day delivery in Ireland for orders before 1pm. Mother's Earth ships from the Netherlands, averaging 3–9 working days.

Can I buy either in a shop in Ireland?

Emerald Homes is stocked in select SuperValu, Lotts & Co. and Quay Co-Op stores — SuperValu Mount Merrion and Terenure, Lotts & Co. in Clontarf, Terenure and Ballsbridge, and Quay Co-Op Wholefood & Organic Shops in Cork. We found no Irish stockists listed on the Mother's Earth site.

Which is cheaper per wash?

On subscription, ours is 25c a wash. A single Mother's Earth pack works out at about 33c a wash, the same as our one-time price.

Are Emerald Homes sheets biodegradable?

Our surfactants, the cleaning ingredients, reached 99.8% biodegradation in 7 days in an independent lab test (GB/T 15818-2018). Our main ingredient, sodium dodecyl sulfate, is readily biodegradable under OECD 301B (95% in 28 days, per our safety data sheet). The PVA that holds the sheet together was not part of either, so we don't claim the whole sheet.

Does Emerald Homes make a fragrance-free sheet?

Not yet. A fragrance-free non-bio sheet is coming soon. Our current sheet contains 1% parfum (Sea Breeze).
